Cabin in the Woods Analysis

Cabin in the Woods cover art.

Another film that we have been looking at is The Cabin in The Woods. This film is about a stereotypical group of kids which are, the jock, the dumb blonde, the lazy friend, the scared cat/puss, and the smart one. These kids then go out on a RC trip to a cabin in the woods for a summer getaway and expect to have the best time of their lives, but they have no idea what’s in store for them. (Spoiler) The plot of the movie is a underground facility makes young kids go out to this cabin and they pump the cabin full of hormones to make them make stereotypical dumb horror movie decisions such as splitting up and going into the basement alone. The facility does this as a ritual to appease the gods. This is not the direction we want to steer the trailer to, but the trailer of the movie is very close to how we want to present our trailer, but with some infusion of the inspiration from the Blair Witch Project. The trailer of The Cabin In the Woods is very high production value, so we will not be able to produce the same trailer as we cannot afford a RV, or a cabin to film in. The overall idea of the trailer is what we want to base our trailer off. The idea of a group of friends going to hangout for the summer but face some sort of unexpected fate as they travel through the woods. As the Blair Witch Project does, we intend to build immense suspense over the course of the film, and we will mirror this in the same way during our trailer. I believe our trailer will reflect a cross between the Blair Witch Project and The Cabin in the Woods taking certain aspects from each of the films. From the Blair Witch Project, we will use more of the filming tactics to incite fear in the viewers and create suspense for the film. While from The Cabin in the Woods, we are using more of the idea and concept of the film, rather than the techniques used in the film. For example in The Cabin in the Woods we would want to use the general character pool such as the one used in the film, this is because it allows the viewer to relate to the character because they may also fit into their generalized group as well. One example of a shot we would like to present is seen in the Blair Witch Project, when the film maker with the large camera is recording the girl while she films. This is one shot I would like to directly incorporate into our trailer, the shot of the character filming him/herself and his/her friends.
The stereotypical character cast as described above.
